Friends is a comedy that is set in New York, it is based around a group
of friends called Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Joey and Chandler. They
are always based around Monica's apartment where is where they like to
hang out. Through out the series Rachel ends up living with Monica as
she runs out on her wedding and need a place to live, Joey and Chandler
lives across the hall and always meet up on a daily basis with the
others Phoebe and Ross who live in their own apartments in different
buildings from everyone. Ross is Monica's brother and throughout the
series Monica eventually ends up marrying Chandler, Rachel and Ross have
a child together, Phoebe gets married to Mike. It follows their lives
as they are either in the apartments or in the coffee house which are
the main two locations. Chandler is the comedian of the group, trying to
make people laugh, Monica is the serious one, Rachel likes to shop,
Joey is the 'dumb' one of the group, Ross is into science and Phoebe
likes to sing.
How I Met Your Mother is based on this as it is based on a group of
friends called Ted, Marshall, Barney, Lily and Robin also in New York,
the main location is either Marshall, Lily and Ted's apartment or the
local bar with is just under from them. Barney is the joker of the
group, always going out with girls, Marshall and Lily are together and
eventually get married, Robin is the tough person of the group always
serious, and Ted is the one always worrying about his future as the
story is based around him telling the episodes story at the beginning as
he talks to his kids as in going over what happened explaining how it
was Ted met his wife.
They are both similar as its a group of friends from New York, the main
location being either in one of their apartments or in the local bar.
